[edit] Overview
Voices in the Dark was released on DVD July 31 2007. It consists of two short stories - titled Over Here and Over There - each centered around a single established character. Each episode has a run time of about 36 minutes. The stories themselves are set in 2271, ten years after the establishment of the Interstellar Alliance.
[edit] Episode 1 - Over Here
The first episode of Voices in the Dark - titled Over Here - is a story revolving around Colonel Elizabeth Lochley and set on Babylon 5. Lochley has requested help from EarthDome of the most unexpected kind.
Father Cassidy, a Catholic priest and an expert in demonic activity, is dispatched from the Vatican by the Pope to B5. There, Captain Lochley introduces him to Simon Burke, a station worker being held in confinement - as much for everyone else's safety as his own. Cassidy and Lochley question Burke - or at least the entity posessing him - to determine what is happening to him. Upon questioning, the entity identifies itself as Azmodeus, a demon seeded among the stars to provide a source of terror for the human race and thus a reason for their return to the church. He taunts and threatens the priest, saying that he will forever torment Burke and everyone he comes into contact with unless Father Cassidy performs an exorcism, casting him from Burke's body.
Captain Lochley, knowing that Azmodeus is lying and trying to determine what he is lying about, researches Burke's history. Along the way she determines that Burke had just returned from leave on Earth, and that the captain of the ship he was on had noticed some of the same effects caused by Burke's presence on Babylon 5. Consulting with Father Cassidy, she determines that the Burke was possessed on Earth, and that was the only way one of Azmodeus' kind could escape. She then sends him back to Earth with Father Cassidy where he will be exorcised, forever trapping him, just as was intended.
[edit] Episode 2 - Over There
The second episode of Voices in the Dark - titled Over There - is a story revolving around President John Sheridan and set on the brand-new Valen-class cruiser, Alliance One. Sheridan is on his way to Babylon 5 to celebrate the tenth aniversary of the founding of the Interstellar Alliance.
[edit] In Memory of Andreas Katsulas and Richard Biggs
The DVD features a short documentary in honor of Andreas Katsulas and Richard Biggs, the two members of the main cast who have passed away since the end of Babylon 5 in 1999.
In the course of the first two episodes, mention is made of both G'Kar and Stephen Franklin - Katsulas' and Biggs' characters, respectively - saying that the two went together to explore "beyond the Rim," which is why they were unable to attend the festivities aboard Babylon 5.
[edit] Future Releases
Originally, Voices in the Dark was intended to be three-episode release, the third episode featuring a story revolving around Michael Garibaldi. Due to the complexity of the Garibaldi story and also the limited funding given by Warner Bros. at the time, the third episode was pushed back to a later release and the first two stories extended.[1]
