The Great Machine exists to serve the community that surrounds the Babylon 5 universe. While there is a ton of information on this fictional universe, most of it floats around the web, often times vanishing into oblivion as the sites hosting said information fall off the face of the internet. It is the dream of this site to consolidate these sorts of information into one, persistent form. Given the variety of mechanisms to keep such systems alive, Wiki seemed to be the most fan-friendly of them all. It does not rely on one person creating/sorting this information. And given the maturity and intelligence of the B5 community at large, the risk of vandalism is very low, further promoting the friendly volunteering of information. Plus, it's just neat. We at FirstOnes.com love giving back to the wonderful community that has helped sustain the site for its many years of life (and things that are neat). So go and enjoy it!
