[edit] Canon vs Noncanon
Hm, is it really appropriate to include a non-canon ship like the Bin'Tak?
- Well, we are including non-cannon stuff, we just need to make sure we note the the item isn't cannon. This isn't the only instance. --RC
- Would it be more appropriate, to say, create a non-canon section for all the non-canon ships? Because there are a lot of non-canon ships that could be added to the wiki, far more than canon ones. It might be a good idea to give them their own section, instead of having to distinguish them all individually.
- I imagine such a thing could be done. Simply add the non-canon ships to a non-canon ships category, and the canon ships to a canon ships category. Easy enough to do and simple to maintain. --Sanfam
- While this seems simple there is such a thing as "insanely redundent categorys" - in otherwords: I have it set up presently to drop all ships into the Ship category and also drop them into the species-ship category. If you split up ships into "Cannon" and "Non-Cannon" then do we also split the species-ship ones between cannon and non-cannon? If so, there might be a lot of single item categories floating about. If not then we would have to backlink all existing species-ship categories to the new non-cannon ship category. Either way, its a pain to set up and might make navigation difficult. --Randomchaos 13:32, 22 Feb 2005 (CST)
- Hmm. This will require some additional planning. Would there be any way to make pages with the non-canon tag appear as a different color/variety something in terms of their link or display in a category contents page?--Sanfam
- Knowing how the CSS and PHP system works, no. It might be possible to hack the PHP categories system to change that, but I am not volunteering to do this. I've been hacking enough stuff recently to make a Wiki work for an RPG with GM tags that completely hide people that aren't GMs (required a hack of the Special: Add sysop panel, a hack of parser.php, and an extension added). --Randomchaos 17:03, 22 Feb 2005 (CST)
- I'll go inquire with Jambo regarding this sort of thing. It should be possible. --Sanfam
Also, don't forget the {{noncanon}} tag:
If we religiously use this it might solve all our problems! Or maybe not ;). --Randomchaos 13:38, 22 Feb 2005 (CST)
