Max Eilerson

From The Great Machine

Jump to: navigation, search

Maximillian Eilerson (David Allen Brooks) was an Interplanetary Expeditions scout, archaeologist and linguist as of 2267.

Eilerson was previously married to Cynthia Allen and owned a cat, Mr. Kitty. (The Rules of the Game)

He was born on Mars and had a "rebellious youth," as he was isolated from the more questionable aspects of life by his parents and tutors. On one expedition to the outside world, he was robbed within 2 minutes. (Ruling from the Tomb)

He hates contradictions, pieces of skin that pull up next to the nail and snag on the lining of a pocket, and an inability to kill the kids at the movie theater should they become loud. (Appearances and Other Deceits)

He has only loved three things in life: his job, Cynthia Allen, and "that damned cat". (The Rules of the Game)

His intellect has come into use for IPX, as he is a prodigy; he has the ability to translate languages without the means of a "Rosetta stone". (War Zone, Appearances and Other Deceits, The Memory of War)

Spoiler warning: Plot or ending details follow.

After finding IPX, his intellect became appreciated for what it was and he became a company man. At this point, he became estranged from Cynthia Allen, who departed with Mr. Kitty.

Cynthia revealed to Sarah Chambers that he jumped through all the academic hoops, but none of the social ones. Eilerson would also talk about work and business, which he used as a smokescreen, because she believed that Eilerson didn't know how to talk about "the things that mattered". (The Rules of the Game)

He was recruited in 2267 for the ISA Excalibur's mission in searching for the Drakh Plague. Although the ulterior motives of IPX were to find planets ("dead worlds") and exploit them for patents and new technologies. (Racing the Night, War Zone)

He believes himself to be an "astute individual" akin to Geoffrey Chaucer, writer of Canterbury Tales; he read the book as a means of amusement. (Patterns of the Soul)
