Mars

For information on the real life Mars, see Mars.

Mars is the fourth planet of Sol and is incapable of supporting human life without life-supporting habitats. It became a colony of Earth in the 2100s.

In an exercise of irony, it is named after the Roman God of War due to its blood red surface.

The settlements on Mars are different from those on the Moon in that, instead of being buried under the surface for the most part, they are encased in domes. The largest, and the capital of the colony, is MarsDome. The domes are interconnected by a series of hundred mile long transport tubes which are made to resist almost any kind of explosive.

[edit] Mars during the Interstellar Alliance

As a result of the Earth Civil War (2260-61), and the Earth Alliance joining the Interstellar Alliance, Mars became recognized as an independent member of the Interstellar Alliance. (S4E21, Rising Star)

During 2267, it became the hub of Earth Alliance activity in response to the Earth quarantine, and as such was used by EarthDome's Head of Xenobiology, Dr. Stephen Franklin, as a place to host an action conference on the Drakh Plague. (CS1E06, Ruling from the Tomb)
