[edit] Summary

Played by Jason Carter, Marcus Cole is a Ranger who escaped from an Anla'shok training facility on Zagros 7, a planet that was blockaded by the Centauri and Shadows (S3E1, Matters of Honor). His original mission was to solicit Babylon 5's aid in breaking the blockade and allowing the other entrapped Rangers to escape.

After the breakout, Marcus remained on Babylon 5 as the Ranger adjunct to the Babylon 5 command staff.

Born on Arisia Colony (S4E11, Lines of Communication), an outpost strapped by EarthGov taxation, Marcus joined the Anla'shok for all the wrong reasons: his brother had entered Ranger training and died six months into it from a Shadow attack. His deathbed request was that Marcus assume his place in the Anla'shok and continue his work.

Marcus Cole's body was placed in cryogenic stasis aboard Babylon 5 following his death. The placard on his cryo-tube - number 45-E - read: "Indefinite hold in the event of new resuscitation technology. Requested by: Cmdr. S. Ivanova."

His Ranger broach and pike, given to him by his teacher, Durhan, went to Susan Ivanova. In 2281, she has the pike mounted on the wall of her office at Earthforce headquarters, always remaining extended, with a plaque below dedicated to the memory of Marcus.

Marcus was revived three-hundred years later by the creators of the healing device he used to give his life force to Ivanova. He was irritated by this, feeling that he was cheated out of his heroic ending.

In a move rife with moral dilemma, he enlists the help of one of Garibaldi's descendents to bring Ivanova back. They steal the neural scan taken of Ivanova while she was Ranger One and use it to make a clone. Then, Marcus arranges for the two of them to be stranded on an uninhabited planet, where they could spend the rest of their lives together.
