Interstellar Alliance
From The Great Machine
The Interstellar Alliance (IA for short) was formed in late 2261 by the Centauri, Narn, Minbari, and League governments. The Earth Alliance joined as a charter member shortly after the Earth Civil War.
As time went by, the IA would cover most of the known galaxy.

[edit] History
The IA was formed as a political and economic alliance rather than a military alliance in late 2261 following the fall of Earth during the first Earth Civil War. This was a joint venture proposed by the Centauri and the Narn and endorsed by the League of Non-Aligned Worlds, placing Sheridan and Delenn as the leaders of the IA. As a condition of admittance into the IA, Earth was pressured into granting Mars independence.
The military neutrality of the IA was challenged in mid-2262 when Alliance shipping lanes fell under attack. The IA was forced to deploy the rangers commanding White Stars as a military force to defend members, and resulted in the IA-Centauri war.
The headquarters of the Alliance was located on Babylon 5 in 2262, before it was permanently moved to the city of Tuzenor on the Minbari homeworld.
In 2362, the Alliance was still firmly in control, though many scholars have questions as to how much Sheridan and Delenn truly shaped the IA. Several panellists on a news program that posed these questions were shocked to see an aged Delenn appear to interrupt the program to defend her husband.
By 2762 the universe had changed: the IA was fracturing at it's source. Daniel attempted to use holograms of John Sheridan, Michael Garibaldi, Franklin, and Delenn to forcibly lend credence to his side's isolationist policy. The holograms were a credible simulacrum of their now-deceased counterparts, but Daniel reprogrammed each one to generate propaganda to distort their pasts by depicting them in acts that any of the actual members of the Army of Light would have found despicable. But Daniel had made the holograms too real. The Garibaldi construct thought and behaved much like the genuine article. The construct hacked the computer, letting the opposing side know of his plans. Fighting broke out.
The result was a devastated and scorched Earth following the Earth Civil War of 2762. Civilisation fell and slowly reformed, with Earth's surviving inhabitants reliving (at one point) a medieval society. The Rangers lived amongst their Earth brothers, discreetly reteaching and guiding humanity back to modern technology. By 3262 this process was still ongoing (The Deconstruction of Falling Stars).

[edit] Conditions of Membership
- The rights of colony worlds must be respected. As such, if the majority of a colony's population wishes for independence they must be freed.
- All governments joining the IA must sign the Declaration of Principles before full membership is granted.
[edit] Agencies & Departments
IA Advisory Board - A board of the founding member races of the IA.
Rangers - The Anla'shok are the de facto "police force" of the IA.
Office of Covert Intelligence - OCI is responsible for collecting information and intelligence from the member races of the IA and the Anla'shok.
IA Space Fleet - The fleet of the IA is relatively small, roughly about 5,000 vessels, making it far too small to be considered a true military. Some notable ships are:
- IAS Liandra
- IAS Valen - The first and only starship of its kind. It entered the service of the Anla'shok in 2267, only to be destroyed shortly thereafter.
- IAS Victory and IAS Excalibur - The only two Victory-class destroyers as of 2267.
- The White Star fleet
- Support ships
- Several Starfury squadrons purchased from Earthforce
- And any other vessels on temporary loan from member races for IA operations
