First Ones
From The Great Machine
The Firstones were literally the first races to gain sentience in our galaxy. These races were immortal beings who could only die from illness or injury. In balance to this, birth rates among the Firstones were very low.
The Firstones felt it was their duty to guide the younger races. The Shadows and Vorlons were left to perform this duty when many of the Firstones went beyond the rim.
Lorien claimed to be the very first, "The First of the Firstones."
