[edit] Early History
Of the family Mir, Delenn entered fosterage with the Religious Caste at an early age. After completing her training, she was assigned as an acolyte to the Grey Council, where Dukhat personally tutored her in the ways of the council. She eventually gained a position on the Grey Council, and thus the title of Satai, and became the chosen of Dukhat to succeed him.
[edit] Family
Delenn's family, her clan, is a close-knit one. Children are raised as much by their parents as they are by the clan itself.
Shortly after Delenn's birth, her mother entered the Sisters of Valeria, a religious order that would leave mother and daughter all but completely separated for the rest of their lives. Delenn's father was then left to form a close parental bond with his daughter. Her most precious memories are of her father taking her to temple in the city. When she was little, he would put her on his shoulder and carry her down the concourse to the temple, holding her high so that she could see everything. However, one day, he told her that she was too big to carry, and she must walk beside him instead.
Her father died in 2245, at the beginning of the Earth-Minbari War. He was undone by sadness, his heart broken by the pointless and futile war against the humans.
[edit] Earth-Minbari War
The Earth-Minbari War began when an Earthforce deep space exploration taskforce, led by the EAS Prometheus, opened fire on the Minbari cruiser carrying the Grey Council. Crushed by the death of Dukhat, her mentor and sponsor into the Grey Council, in the attack, Delenn declared vengeance upon the humans. Her tie-breaking vote effectively declared the war.
By the time her reason resumed, she was unable to stop the carnage. It had become a war of vengeance, with a life of its own, and the people of Minbar still called for blood. This war would be the genocidal massacre of the human species but for an intriguing discovery made by others on the Grey Council.
As the war progressed, Delenn worked to undo what she had begun, including sending Entil'Zha Lenonn to meet with Lt. Commander Sheridan, Dr. Franklin and G'Kar, to begin peace talks. These peace talks were halted when an attack by Centauri forces (ordered by Londo Mollari) killed Lenonn.
Later, at the Battle of the Line, Delenn ordered the capture and interrogation of a human (Jeffrey Sinclair). The interrogation, employing one of the three known triluminaries, resulted in the belief that humans were absorbing Minbari souls, and thus were Minbari. Since, as was set down by Valen a thousand years before, Minbari do not kill Minbari, the Grey Council, pushed by the Religious Caste, felt driven to surrender, and halt the war.

[edit] Entil'Zha
- The Anla'shok's first contacts on Babylon 5 were Security Chief Garibaldi and Delenn. The Anla'shok passed intelligence to the B5 command staff through Garibaldi, while Delenn's role remained somewhat obscure (S2E09, The Coming of Shadows).
- Further along, its revealed that Delenn was given command of the Ranger detatchment in the B5 region. She later offers Captain Sheridan joint command (S2E20, The Long, Twilight Struggle).
- The following year would see Delenn named Entil'Zha/Ranger One, or Leader of the Anla'shok/Rangers, though not without complications in her ascension (S3E19, Grey 17 Is Missing).

[edit] Personal Issues
Before the Minbari would approve her liaison with Sheridan, Delenn needed to prove to her clan that her reasons were sound for her willingness to contaminate the Minbari genome with human DNA. She eventually showed, via The Dreaming, evidence that she was a Child of Valen, one of untold numbers who already carried human DNA from Jeffrey Sinclair. (S4E09, Atonement)
[edit] Memorable Quotes by Delenn
"Only one human captain has ever survived battle with a Minbari fleet. He is behind me. You are in front of me. If you value your lives, BE SOMEWHERE ELSE!" (S3E10, Severed Dreams)
[edit] Of Note
Delenn lived to be over 140 years old. (Segment 2, S4E22, The Deconstruction of Falling Stars)
