Commander is a military rank used in the navy. Commanders are usually the Executive Officer aboard a ship or the Commanding Officer of a smaller vessel or space station.

The rank of Commander is the second most senior line officer rank falling after Captain. Following this is the rank of Lieutenant Commander which is the next senior line officer before the rank of Lieutenant.
