Father Cassidy is a priest from Earth whose religious denomination is unknown, although likely associated with Catholicism.
Cassidy is the response to Colonel Elizabeth Lochley's request for a priest to come to Babylon 5. Due to the short-notice nature of the summons, his ship is a transport freighter which Cassidy bears, having been in worse situations.
Cassidy is set to perform an exorcism on Simon Burke, a security officer who was possessed by a demon on Earth during his vacation from B5.
Cassidy is faced with a difficult choice, exorcise Burke alone, or gather help. Due to the secretive nature of his summons by Lochley and the fact that knowledge of such creatures would certainly reignite religious convictions, he is hesitant to bring in additional help since this would increase the chance of word leaking out.
The demon possessing Burke attempts to deceive Cassidy about how God bound creatures such as himself to the far reaches of space, knowing that creatures like him would reignite faith in those who had lost it to technology and their own belief in their creations. However, the demon's willingness to undergo exorcism gives him pause, and it is due to Lochley's research that Cassidy arranges for Burke to be exorcised on Earth, rather than on B5.
Lochley and Cassidy both agree to keep on the lookout for such creatures, should they attempt to escape from Earth (Voices in the Dark).
