The classic definition of Ambassador is an individual representing his or her home government to another government or collection of governments. In the case of B5, an ambassador represents homeworld governments.

On Babylon 5, Ambassador Delenn represents the Minbari Federation, Ambassador Mollari represents the Centauri Republic, Ambassador G'Kar represents the Narn Regime, and Ambassador Kosh represents the Vorlon Empire. The other minor races are represented by the League of Non-Aligned Worlds.
